Why do I have to join a Board?
The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) requires all real estate licensees affiliated with a REALTOR® agency to belong to a Board of REALTORS®, or the Company can pay for the agent as a Non-member Sales Assessment.
Can I join any Board I choose?
You can only belong to a Board if your Designated Broker is a member of that Board. If your Designated Broker is a member of multiple boards, you may choose from those boards.
How do I become a REALTOR®?
Click the "Join" button on The Greater Portland Board of REALTORS® website's homepage, or on the "Join as a REALTOR®" page under the "Membership" tab. Select “Primary REALTOR®” on the application unless you are already a member of another board. In this case, select “Secondary REALTOR® In-state” or “Secondary REALTOR® Out-of-State” depending on your location. Dues are pro-rated according to the month the Maine Real Estate Commission granted your license.
What is a NRDS Number?
When you join a Board, your information is entered into the National Association of REALTORS® database. Before we can do that, we assign you a specific number known as your NRDS number. You will need this to log in to take courses on the NAR website
What happens if I can’t remember my NRDS number?
We have a link on the REALTOR® Resources page of our website to get help finding your NRDS number or you can go straight to the NAR site for help.

Why must I take the Code of Ethics and Fair Housing Courses?
NAR requires all REALTORS® to take these courses once each cycle in order to maintain your REALTOR® status. The Ethics and Fair Housing Courses are not required by the Maine Real Estate Commission for licensing, but you may be able to use credits from an Ethics class to make up your 21 CEU credits needed to relicense.
To complete your Code of Ethics requirements through NAR, for $0 and 0 CEUs, click here. To complete your Fair Housing requirement through NAR, also for no cost and CEU credit, click here.
For a list of Code of Ethics courses that satisfy the NAR requirement and are approved for CEUs, click here. Costs vary depending on provider. For a list of Fair Housing courses that satisfy the NAR requirement and are approved for CEUs, click here.
How long are my Code of Ethics and Fair Housing Certificates valid?
Members must take an approved Code of Ethics and Fair Housing class once during the three-year timeframe set by NAR. We are currently in the cycle running 1/1/25-12/31/27.
How can I check to see if my Code of Ethics requirement is current?
Login to your page on the NAR Portal. Under your name is your COE information. Expiration Date is the beginning of the next cycle. COE Complete Yes or No will tell you if you have met the current cycle requirement.
Why does the date of my last Ethics course differ from when I actually took it last?
We can only enter one Ethics Course date per three-year period in the National system, so if an agent takes the class several times, maybe for credits toward relicensing, it will only be entered once per period.
Where are Ethics classes provided?
You can take the Ethics class in person and often online with any of the Maine Real Estate Commission’s approved instructors. You can also take a non-credit course at no charge on the National Association of REALTORS® web page or for credit with payment on that site.
To complete your Code of Ethics requirements through NAR, for $0 and 0 CEUs, click here. To complete your Fair Housing requirement through NAR, also for no cost nor CEU credit, click here.

When are dues owed?
On or by December 1st of each year.
Will I automatically receive an invoice for renewal of dues?
No. We notify everyone by email in early September that the invoices are available on their portal page. If you unsubscribe from our emails, or change your email and do not notify GPBR, you will not receive the emails, but are still responsible for paying dues on or by the due date. Dues notices will also be shared on GPBR's social media pages.
How can I pay my dues?
Login to the GrowthZone portal and pay with any credit/debit card.
Can I pay dues in person in cash?
We do not accept cash.
When does a late fee apply?
The $150 late fee applies on December 2nd. Members must pay their annual dues by 11:59 PM on December 1st to avoid the $150 late penalty.
What happens if I do not pay my dues?
Your company will be billed for your dues payment, and if it is not paid, the entire company will be cut off from MLS and deactivated.
Why can’t I log in to GrowthZone?
If you have never set up a user account with Growthzone, you will need to do that at this link: https://members.thegreaterportlandboardofrealtors.com/MIC/Login
